What a useful video analytics pilot should measure
Define the event, establish a baseline and evaluate the workflow—not just a demo clip.
Define success before connecting cameras
Write down the event you need to detect and the decision that follows it. Agree which operating hours, camera views and environmental conditions belong in the evaluation.
Build a representative sample
Include positive events and ordinary activity. Review the sample manually and keep the evaluation footage separate from footage used to tune the configuration.
Measure more than accuracy
Review missed events, irrelevant alerts, time to operator review and the completeness of event context. Record stream outages and unsupported scenarios alongside results.
Make an evidence-based rollout decision
Compare observations with the acceptance criteria. Expand only the scenarios supported by the evaluation and assign ownership for ongoing monitoring.
